About Us “The ‘Big Statements’ from the ‘Little Café’ on Chapel St”
When asked why Charles Callis created CNF in 1996 his response is a passionate one. “I started the business to create the café/bar I always wanted. I could see a decline in the quality of dining venues in South Yarra and decided to raise the standard.”
Raising the standard of dining in South Yarra was not the only thing Charles did with CNF. Along with his team of key hospitality profesionals. Charles has created a breakfast and Tuscan dining experience that has been getting better every year.
CNF has been written-up in The Age Epicure and is listed in The Age Good Bar Guide, The Best Breakfast in Melbourne Book, Mietta’s Guide and Lonely Planet to name a few. It was also won a spot in the “Top 10 Breakfasts in Melbourne” and Thomas Johannsen (the Australian Tennis Open Champion) voted CNF his favourite café. So how will CNF grow in the future? Well, plans are being made to expand the business into retail wine sales and there is even talk of holding regular food and wine events. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens; but whatever happens, you can be sure Charles and his team will do it with their signature style and quality – expect nothing less. What people are saying about C’N’F Bar Café......“I lived in South Yarra in 2000 and used to go to CnF 2 to 3 times a month. When I returned to Melbourne in 2005, I was so happy to find CnF still running. Nothing has changed. Great food, great service and great wine selection. It's a small restaurant but you won't feel crowded there. Highly recommended.”
“The interior here is a warm mix of timber, light walls and stainless steel fittings. It's an inviting atmosphere, while the efficient, no-fuss service leaves you free to enjoy your conversation, or simply ponder the passeggiata.” “CNF is authentically Italian, does great coffee and from what I can tell good food based on peoples willingness to populate the place at all hours of the day. The coffee? Always immaculately presented (coffee art rates high with me), but no unnecessary ostentatiousness. The venue is excellent for a kick back, watch the world go by type of session, and I get that the management are cool for that to happen” Back to top
